US will complete the Manbij roadmap agreement before withdrawing its troops from Syria, Turkish authorities claimed.
According to Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, the two countries agreed on fulfilling the agreement which was designed to prevent Turkey from launching an offesive operation against US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Manbij.
The US surprise withdrawal will leave SDF without military support, most inportantly the air cover provided by the US-led Coalition. SDF leadership has already labeled the US decision as “betrayal” and “a stab in the back” as it fears that Turkey will attack.
In turn, the Turkish authorities have openly declared their intentions to conduct an offensive against SDF east of Euphrates. The operation will reportedly involve around 25 ooo Turkish soldiers and militants of Free Syrian Army factions loyal to Turkey.
