According to a report published on Monday by UK’s Independent, the contingent is comprised of 1,000 special forces along with armored vehicles, and air-power as the Turkish forces are moving deeper into Syria, along with Ankara-backed militants, setting up a “security zone” across the border.

Turkey embarked on the plan while international focus is on the situation in Aleppo and the move by Turkish forces, taking place in the shadows, could complicate further the war in Syria.

The report came as Turkish Parliament on Sunday overwhelmingly extended the mandate that allows use of the country’s military forces abroad for another 13 months, signaling that the Turkish Army’s fledgling presence in Syria will continue at least for another year.
