TURKEY READY TO CONDUCT JOIN PATROLS WITH RUSSIA IN AFRIN

Turkish authorities announced their intention to conduct joint patrols with Russian troops around Tel Rifaat and Azaz cities in Afrin region in northern Aleppo, Turkish media reported.

According to a statement published by Turkish Internal Ministry, the patrols are supposed to “prevent attacks” launched against Turkey from these areas, as quoted by TRT HABER channel.

Previously it was reported that a meeting between senior Turkish officials and Russian military was held south of Azaz to discuss reopening of the Aleppo – Gaziantep international highway.

Russian military has been maintaining a small presence in Tel Rifaat which came under threat with the beginning of the Turkish Olive Branch operation. The Syrian Arab Army as well as the Kurdish People’s Protection Units are also present in the area.
