Military police of the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army in Jarablus announced that a man who was tortured to death in its custody was a former soldier of the Syrian Arab Army.
A picture of discharge certificate of 30-years-old Muhannad Diyas al Qassem who died in custody has been used by opposition activist as a “proof” of his guilt. According to the certificate, Al Qasem has served in the ranks of the SAA for eight years before retiring this January.
According to local sources, Al Qassem was detained by military police officers at Aoun Dadat checkpoint north of Manbij city in northern Aleppo province last week of January. Sources added that Al Qassem traveled to Aleppo province to see his family.
This Monday, a video showing his body with traces of beating and torture appeared on social media. Relatives of the victims blamed his death on the military police, who failed to explain the circumstances that led to his demise.
