According to our sources, Major-General Jamil al Hassan, the head of Syrian air intelligence (muhabarat) faced senior officers of the Israeli special services on June 30. The meeting was held under Russian military mediation, on the territories, controlled by the Russian Military Police in the Golan heights.
This Syrian – Israeli intelligence summit was a top secret event and carefully guarded. In according with some reports some of the participants belonged to the former Syrian opposition, as they had respect and good relations with Israel.
The meeting lasted about four hours, but the sides did not reach perfect understanding. The Syrian General was reported to refuse Israel’s demand, that Iranian troops and militia should be withdrawn beyond the 55-kilometer zone. There have been no official comments on the event yet. Meanwhile the following development leaked to the press last week.
About a week after #Israeli & #Syrian secret intelligence officials meeting in #Golan heights, Major-General Jamil al Hassan, the long-term head of #Syria's muhabarat, was removed by President #Assad from office for 'his ties with #Iran'. What happened on the last day of June is not supposed to be the start to Syria and Israel regional cooperation, but can be a first step to mutual understanding of National interests. Anyway, if the two countries start bilateral consultations in multiple spheres, it will make the region a little bit more predictable and safer.
