HTS TIGHTENS ITS GRIP OVER RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN IDLIB

Syrian Salvation Government affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al Sham terror group announced the establishment of an institute for “reeducation” of Islamic preachers and imams.

The institute, named after Thabit Ibn Qais, will enroll preachers from the areas of Idlib and Hama provinces controlled by HTS who has become a dominant force in northern Syria after it pushed Turkey-backed factions of the Free Syrian Army toward Afrin.

Last December, Salvation Government introduced a ban on “non-licensed” Sharia schools effectively imposing control over religious education in opposition-held areas.

The announcement was followed by another statement in which Salvation Government urged Islamic preachers to dedicate this week’s Friday sermons to blaming the Syrian government for civilian casualties.
