A conference on the future of Raqqa city was held in the Italian capital Rome with the participation of representatives of Raqqa Civilian Council in addition to US and EU officials.
The conference, hold at the request of the US State Department, was ignored by the opposition-created Raqqa Council, which has rejected to take part in the meeting. According to the Council, the participants “represent no-one but themselves”. The Council has also claimed that the meeting lacks clear agenda and does not cover the situation in Raqqa province, concentrating exclusively on the city itself.
Is is believed that the conference was organized to strengthen the diminishing popularity of SDF-backed Raqqa Civilian Council, which has almost no support among the locals.
