Egyptian authorities have reportedly expressed readiness to act as a mediator between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), SDF representative Ilham Ahmad announced.
According to Ahmad, over the past few days SDF leadership has contacted Egyptian officials asking them to set up negotiations with Damascus. She also expressed hope that Egypt will move swiftly to provide the conditions necessary for an agreement between the two sides.
A delegation of Egyptian intelligence officials is expected to travel to Damascus in the coming few days to discuss the issue.
SDF has started to turn towards cooperating with the Syrian government after US President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced withdrawal of US military from Syria. Besides air support, US presence on the ground provided SDF with a cover against Turkey, that has openly announced its intentions to attack SDF-held areas in Northern Syria.
