President of Syria Bashar al-Assad says the Geneva talks on Syrian
conflict settlement gave no results.

“As for Geneva, it still remains a meeting place for only the media. No concrete step was made in any of the Geneva meetings”, Assad said in an interview with Belarusian TV Channel ONT. According to him, Geneva is a process which aims at reaching concessions from Syria’s leadership.
“I will not go to any concessions since the President has no right to make concessions at the national scale”, he said. “Such decisions are adopted at pan-national level, a referendum is needed for that”. Assad said he can go to concessions on ‘personal issues, but not on issues that relate to the country’s leadership, national interests, constitution and independence’.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on May 11 announced that the 6th round of Geneva talks on Syria will be held on May 16-19.
