Al Qaeda-linked Hay’at Tahrir al Sham (HTS) group has claimed the responsibility for twin blasts near holy shrines frequented by Shiites in the Syrian capital Damascus that killed at least 42 people.

HTS said the attack was ‘a message to Iran’ over the country’s support for Syrian president Bashar al Assad. The militants said in a statement that the attacks were carried by two of its suicide attackers, claiming that they targeted pro-Iranian and pro-government militiamen. The attack also wounded over a hundred people.
