The Saudi Kingdom will provide funds for the restoration of the Syrian city of Raqqa in cooperation with the US, reported Saudi paper Okaz.According to Okaz, Saudi Minister for Gulf Affairs Thamer Al-Subhan traveled to Ayn Isa in Raqqa province where he met US Special Envoy for the International Coalition Brett McGurk. Is is expected that Al-Subhan will take part in the official announcement of the liberation of Raqqa which will happen in the next few days.
Citing the sources close to the International Coalition, the paper added that the rebuilding of the city, which was nearly devastated during the clashes with ISIS terrorists, was also discussed with United Arab Emirates.
The city of Raqqa was captured by ISIS in late 2013 and became a de facto capital of the terror group. On Tuesday, Oct 16th, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forced declared control over more than 90% of the city, ending the offensive that had started this June.
