Israel accused Syrian Air Defense of launching a missile towards an Israeli jet, which was on a routine mission in Lebanon airspace.
According to the IDF spokesperson Major Avichay Adraee, the Israeli jets returned fire and targeted the battery, located in Ramadan district in Eastern Damascus.
Adraee stressed that Israel holds the Syrian government responsible for any fire towards Israeli targets, calling the incident “a provocation” and “a red line”.
“The launch of Syrian missile in the direction of our aircraft in Lebanese air space is a provocation and crosses a red line. We shall not permit that”, – twitted Adraee, posting a picture of an Israeli jet with a phrase “Don’t play with fire” written on it in Arabic.
However, he added that Israel doesn’t intent to escalate the conflict and considers the incident closed.
